Great food and value Italian restaurant in Whistler
(4/14/2008 8:47:06 PM)
My friends and I were spending a weekend on Whistler last week.  We had a great dinner at Caramba.  The wood oven pizza and pasta are excellent.  The chicken salad was so great that we doubled it up.  Last but not least, it was quite reasonably priced as well.  I will definitely go back again.

A Casual & Decent Meal
(3/4/2008 10:09:31 AM)
I have walked by this place so many times in the village and have finally visited this restaurant.

My gf and I had a few of their appys and their pork chop for entree.  The bacon wrapped filet was excellent, but the pork chop was a bit too dry.  The service and atmosphere were great and casual.  It was a great experience after all.

I really recommend this place to the people that are really sick of the typical chains and looking for a nice and affordable meal on Whistler.

Vancouver's Best Japanese Restaurant
(2/17/2008 3:27:53 PM)
My gf and I visited this place recently and were really impressed by the quality of the food and service.  We tried the 4-courses + desserts Omakase menu (Tasting menu).  They were all excellent.  I really recommend this restaurant to everybody that loves Japanese food.

Damn the cost for once.  It's worthwhile!

An opposite view of the restaurant
(1/7/2008 11:34:45 AM)
I have heard and read a lot of bad reviews about this restaurant.  That's why I didn't give it a try until very recent.  I went there for drinks to see if it was really that bad.  I guess I had a lucky day.  The view and the service were great.  The drinks were pretty good, except for the first martini I had (the Mojito was good).   I guess I will give you a try for lunch (taking baby steps....)

New Japanese Izakaya
(11/21/2007 12:00:12 PM)
This is a new Izakaya on Broadway.  I just passed another day and decided to give it a try.  It was not bad.  They have a pretty long menu.  The food and service were quite good, although the portion was too small.  It's a nice place for a quiet dinner if you can get a sit at the balcony (indoor).

Decent French food for less
(11/13/2007 1:31:54 PM)
I recently visited this restaurant at the French cultural center in South Granville.  I had a great French meal there for a lot less than I spent elsewhere.  The  escorts tasted really good and wasn't too rich.  The sole and duck breast my gf and I had were really well prepared.  We had Profiterolles for desserts! It was excellent!  Totally Recommended!

Note: Make sure you make a reservation.  It's very busy!  Also, it only accept cash.

Decent Food but Expensive & Non-Attentive of Service
(11/6/2007 4:11:03 PM)
I recently went to this restaurant again with my friends.  It was my second time.  The quality of food is still very good but the service was pretty bad.  We almost had to ask them to bring us each utensil individually when we wanted a new setting.  I didn't have to pay this time but it was more than $40 per person the first time I went.  I'm not sure if it was really worthwhile.

It's not bad
(10/9/2007 10:44:49 AM)
I recently gave this restaurant a try and found out that it's okay but just average.  Their stuffed chicken and pad thai is good, but the fish cake tasted just like frozen fish cake.  Also it would be nice if they have a more attractive dessert menu.

Quiet Weekend Night
(9/13/2007 9:58:00 AM)
My gf & I checked this place out on a weekend night.  It was almost 7pm, but we were the only customers.  We ordered two dishes to share and a bottle of wine.  The food was just average.  Based on the quietness of that night, we were disappointed by the lack of attention.  The bartender/server of the night was just sitting at his corner reading newspaper or mixing drinks for himself most of time.  I don't think I will come back again.

So.cial at Le Magasin in Gastown
(8/2/2007 1:22:02 PM)
My friends and I have recently checked out this restaurant.  It was a nice experience.  We tried their Tuna with squid ink chili sauce, Charcuterie (meat patties with crackers on the side), sable fish, duck breast, and scallops.  They were all in very good portion and well prepared (not too raw & not overcooked).  It's a nice place to dine.

Hidden Gem Steakhouse
(6/22/2007 2:08:52 PM)
I just went there over the weekend with my gf.  The atmosphere, live jazz band, and the food were all very good and reasonably price.  I really enjoyed the Mussels & Fries and Tenderloin I had.  I will definitely go back again.

(Don't forget to use your coupon if you have an Entertainment book).

Just another Izakaya restaurant
(4/11/2007 2:30:58 PM)
Just gave this restaurant a shot a couple weeks ago.  My friends and I were quite disappointed.  First of all, they didn't have a alcohol license yet when we went there.  It was kind of weird for an Izakaya.  The food was alright but nothing spectacular.  If I had a choice, I would drive a bit farther to downtown and have Izakaya there.

Nice Traditional Japanese restaurant in Metrotown area
(3/22/2007 10:45:39 PM)
This Japanese restaurant is really close to where I live but I have never tried it until recently.  Great price & food quality.  Also it is very clean.  It has become one of my favorites Japanese restaurant in Burnaby.

Above average food on a busy night, but more organization is needed
(3/9/2007 5:07:07 PM)
I went there for Valentine's dinner with my gf.  It didn't start out very well because we had to seat at the bar for at least 15 ~ 20 mins, which is very close to the "flamming" stove.  It was pretty damn hot...

Thank god, we are finally seated at a table and ready to order.  The wine & food came and they were all pretty good (sorry, I forgot what I had already... it was quite a while ago).  I guess I will consider going back on a quiet night.

Nice food but too busy/noisy during the dine-out event
(2/15/2007 9:23:45 PM)
My friends and I went to this restaurant during the dineout event.  The food was great as expected.  The Lobster Bisque was just thick and salty at the right level.  Both the Sablefish & Veal were great.  Also the personal chocolate fondue was just nicely presented at the right portion.

I was very impressed by the food, but I won't recommend going there during the dine-out event if you don't mind paying a little bit for the atmosphere as well.  It was a very nice and classy dining room, but it was way too busy/noisy on the night I went there.  It would be great we could sink into ambiance and enjoy the dinner quietly.

Another nice place for afternoon tea
(1/30/2007 5:10:14 PM)
I recently visited Adonia for afternoon tea.  Their 3-tier afternoon cake set are presented really nicely and neat.  The food was pretty good.  They had egg salad, salmon, prawns, and tuna  sandwiches in the first and second tiers.  In addition to the standard tarts, they have home-made tiramisu and raspberry cake on the side.  I will definitely go back again.

No more Alcohol
(12/27/2006 12:21:03 AM)
I just went to Green Element.  We tried there x'mas special menu that night.  The food was not bad, especially the lobster bisque and duck breast.  The only problem was my veal rack, it was a bit too cooked.  I usually like it rare.

I also find it strange that they don't serve alcohol as well.  I heard that it was a drinking place before and now they are no more licensed.  It would be a lot better if we had the meal with some wine or something.

Just revisited again with no regret!
(11/18/2006 11:31:31 PM)
My friends and I just revisited this place again and with no regret as usual.  We tried the Unagi Rice Cake in Egg (Thank you for Hungry Ju's recommendation).  It was EXCELLENT!!!

Delicious Food at Decent Price
(11/5/2006 12:21:11 PM)
I have finally tried this restaurant after I have heard/seen so many good reviews of this restaurant.  It was a great experience.  The food was great and the atmosphere was very casual.

We had Baked Escargot, Crab Wrap, Chicken Kiev, Lamb Shashlick, Russian Cake, and Tiramisu.  I have to say all of the above were great and the portion was pretty good too!! I really have no compliants on any of the dishes.  The whole meal only costs us around $50 + tax (excluding the wine we ordered).  It was a pretty good deal.  I will definitely go back again!

Pretty nice food
(10/25/2006 5:04:22 PM)
Just visited this new & "hidden" taiwanese restaurant on No. 3 the other day and found out that they have pretty good food and not very expensive.  What they serve is not the typical bento box type of taiwanese food, they actually have some main dishes and pretty tasty.  Nice addition on No. 3.

Taste of Yaletown: Rodney Rocks!
(10/14/2006 12:04:30 PM)
My gf and I went to Rodney for our first Taste of Yaletown dinner of the year.  We both really liked the food and the experience.

We order the $35 and $45 menus to share (Steamed mussels, garlic shrimp, tossed organic green salad, a lot of pan fried oysters from both menus, 2lb boiled Dungeness crab, and desserts).  The mussels were pretty fresh, the pan fried oysters were excellent and in pretty huge portion (even for two people), and the 2 lb Dungeness crab was GREAT!

Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to try their banana creme brule because it was sold out! .    Instead, we tried their Chocolate Mousse cake and Cheese cake.  They were pretty good too!

The service at the bar was pretty good! The bartenders were super friendly!  I will definitely go back and try their raw oysters next time!

City Dine: Disappointed
(10/1/2006 5:51:43 PM)
My gf and I went to Cassis during the City Dine event last week.. Both of us were quite disappointed.

First of all, their wine was pretty pricy, if not really pricy.  When we asked our server for recommendation, he seemed quite inexperience and was only pointing at the most expensive bottle of wine on the list.  I guess I know that the most expensive one on the list might be the best.  Thanks!

Secondly, the portion of the Bouillabaisse was TINY.  It only had two pieces of scallop, prawns, and fish.  Also the fish didn't taste very fresh.  It made us to think that we were having a $25 menu instead of a $35 menu.  The steak I ordered was cooked rare.  That's great because it was exactly what I wanted, but this Flat Iron Steak were really tasted like iron.  It was totally some bad cut steak.

For $35 per person (plus wine), this place has quite disppointed both of us.  I guess we won't go back again.

P.S.: their washroom was not very well maintained as well.

Food is just okay & service sucks
(9/20/2006 2:38:14 PM)
I just went there for lunch with my coworkers today.  We ordered some burgers and beef dip.  The burgers were not bad, but the beef dip that my colleague had was pretty bad.  The beef was not chewy and overcooked.

The thing that I am not happy about was the service.  Not only the server was very cold, it also took me multiple attempts to order a refill of my drink and around 10 mins to get it.  Thank god, there are plenty of choices in downtown for pub food.

Still one of the best fusion restaurants in town
(9/4/2006 1:33:32 PM)
I didn't re-visit this place since my first time last year.  I finally came back 2 days ago.  I find it's still one of the best fusion restaurants in town.  My gf and I had the Potstickers (kind of like gyoza), seafood clay pot, and home made smoked duck breast.  All of them were pretty good and the meat was very tender.

Also, the service was pretty smooth and the server was pretty attentive.  I will definitely go back again when I feel like to have asian food and a sip of martini at the same time.

Good food but LONG WAIT...
(8/29/2006 2:04:47 PM)
I went to Sea Harbour Restaurant for dim sum during the weekend.  I find their dim sum is still one the best in Richmond, especially their Shrimp Dumplings and Shark Fin Shrimp Dumplings (yes, I LOVE shrimp dumplings).

Although their food is great, I have complain about reservation "system", if there is a system at all.  I made a reservation for 11:30 and I got to there at 11:30.  I had to wait, wait, and wait until 12:20 to be seated.  I was wondering, what's the point of making reservation since I have to wait for almost an hour to get a table!?  They can't just take a reservation when they have no clue when that table will be available.  Anyways, another nice to know and share with all the hungry fellow - Reservation and Arrive Early is Recommended!!!!

Lunching with Flies
(8/14/2006 9:10:24 AM)
I went there with a group of coworkers for lunch 2 weeks ago.  The food was alright in general.  My salmon was cooked medium-rare, exactly the way I like it.  What drove me nuts was the flies around us.  I saw at least 30 flies flying around our us and food.  It was disgusting!  For a high end restaurant like Joe Fortes, I totally didn't expect my dining experience could be so bad.  Anyways, I hope they get this problem resolved asap!  Otherwise, I am not planning to go back again.

Pretty good food but a bit expensive
(7/16/2006 7:27:48 PM)
I went there for lunch with my coworkers a few days ago.   The Samurai Power, Delicious Roll, and Spicy Tuna/Chopped Scallop/Tuna Family Roll were the 3 that were pretty good, especially the sauce that came with the trio roll.  It tastes a bit like peanut butter with some other spices.  That was a really good replacement of washabi for sushi!

The bill was not very big but it was not very cheap either (around $20 per person).  I may go back again someday.

Terrible Food!
(7/13/2006 10:48:21 AM)
After a day under the sun, my friends and I decided to have some noodles at Sha Lin Noodle House.  Unfortunately, it was pretty packed as usual.  Some of us were in a rush, we decided to give the restaurant (Singapore Restaurant) next door a shot.  It was a BAD IDEA!!

We ordered a few dishes off their specials.  The fried noodles were hard & cold, the rice were also hard and felt like it was cooked and left there since the night before, the spring rolls tasted like chemical, etc.

It was the worst experience of a restaurant we have ever had.  The funniest thing was that we should have known it beforehand because it was completely empty, where Sha Lin was all packed.  That should mean something is wrong with this restaurant.

Anyways, enough bitching!  I will be smart about being adventurous next time.

Special Sushi Rolls
(6/26/2006 12:11:13 AM)
I recently visited this little Japanese restaurant on Davie.  I know about this place through a newspaper ad.  I was a bit skeptical about it at first, but it really surprised me!

I tried some of their special rolls: Canucks Roll, Rainbow Roll, Spider Roll, and Sakura Roll.  They are all pretty tasty and well presented.  The portion is bigger than most trendy izakaya.  If it's a dinner of 2, 3 rolls should be good enough, unless you are a big eater!

I haven't tried anything else (i.e. sashimi, tataki, etc).  I will give them a shot next time.

By the way, it's a very economic place to go for dinner as well.  It's about $8~10 + tax per person.

Richmond Night Market
(6/5/2006 12:24:57 PM)
After all these years of night marketing visits, the most attracting section is still the food section.  I spent my dinner there yesterday.  I have had so many snacks.  The best one was still the Octopus Ball.  This is the must have for me everytime I go there.

Although the food quality varies from booth to booth (the Siu Mai I had yesterday was not well done), most of the stuff I had was pretty good.  Another downside of the food is that it is actually quite expensive.

Because I can't really remember the names of the booths, I can't recommend which specific places are good.  I will try to write them down next time I go.

Do you guys know the names of the booths?  Can you guys recommend some of the great booths?

Sushi House
(6/1/2006 1:58:52 PM)
I went there for dinner a few days ago.  It was very busy and I didn't know it was self-service after like 10 mins or something.  Anyways, the sashimi & sushi were great and fresh.  It only cost about $30-ish for two of us.  The price is pretty reasonable.

The only downside is that there was not obvious sign that it's a self-service place.

Yagger's Downtown
(5/28/2006 3:05:05 PM)
I went there for lunch last week.  Their special was Butter Chicken.  I was quite skeptical about it at first because I usually don't order any asian food in a western restaurant.  However, I was convinced and wanted to give it a shot.  Surprisingly enough, it was pretty good.  It may not be the best one I have had, but definitely in the top 5.

I haven't tried their drinks and other snacks yet, but I will definitely go back and try something else.

Dark Chocolate = Fast Heart Rate
(5/7/2006 2:33:35 PM)
Pretty wide selection of chocolate drinks.  They also have very nice looking chocolate cakes & truffles, but I was too full from dinner and didn't have the capacity to try their desserts.  You can order strawberry or banana with chocolate from the chocolate fountain for about $1.50 each.  It would be better if they serve chocolate fondue/fountain.  I hope that will be on their menu very soon.

Clove (Denman)
(4/23/2006 5:27:00 PM)
Another adventurous weekend, I went to this place for drinks over the weekend.  I have always wanted to try this place out after going to Kin Taro because it's just right across the street!

It has pretty funky decors.  It's quite similar to Bin 941/942 because the dining rooms are both pretty narrow.  I have checked out their menu even though I was only there for drinks (I should have had my dinner too... I will for sure next time).  The price is VERY reasonable.  The most expensive dish was steak and it's only $14 or something.  Also, their Tapas menu looks quite interesting as well.  Too bad I had dinner already.

The drinks were not bad, I tried their Mumbai Mango.  It was like slush and quite tasty (a bit girly though... ).  I didn't try their wine, but the wine menu was okay and the price was again quite reasonable.  I will definitely go back and try their food next time.

Capstone Tea (Robson)
(4/23/2006 5:19:49 PM)
Another adventurous weekend, I tried this place with my gf after finding out about this place the week before.  After one whole week of waiting, we were a bit disappointed.

First of all, the menu was a bit misleading/unclear.  The specials menu says $5.99 per person for all-you-can-eat Chocolate Fondue (with purchase of drinks) and regular price is $9.99 in smaller font.  In the main menu, it says $14.99 for Chocolate Fondue.  My gf and I were like "huh!? Confused!".  After asking the server, they actually meant $9.99 per person for all-you-can eat Chocolate Fondue regularly, it's $5.99 per person it's a promotion.  "Ah.... oic!"

Okay, we didn't order all-you-can-eat Chocolate Fondue b/c we didn't have dinner yet, we ordered the Dinner Set, which includes Chocolate & Cheese Fondue for around $20 (none of them are all-you-can-eat).  They were not bad except the items for the Cheese Fondue was a bit less than what was shown in the picture, but the Chocolate Fondue was pretty good even though it's not all-you-can-eat.  Because both of them are pretty heavy, we got pretty full after finishing both.

If you just want to eat Chocolate Fondue, the all-you-can-eat one is the way to go because their fruits are pretty fresh.  It's not a bad place to have desserts after a casual dinner.

Rime
(4/11/2006 12:04:25 PM)
Tried something different for family dinner last week.  This is the first time we had Turkish and got lost in the menu.  It's okay.  We were quite adventurous.  We kind of randomly ordered dishes that sounded good and they turned out to be really good.

The kabob of lamb and meatballs were really good.  Also, the lamb & prawn stew in sauce mixed very well with the rice as well.  It's quite cool!

They also have live performance after 9pm (not sure if it was only for weekends or not).  They charge for a little cover like $5 or something.  It's not significant for me.  I guess I will go back for dinner/drinks next time.

Shiru-Bay Chopstick Cafe
(4/11/2006 11:58:22 AM)
I also tried the Shiru-bay 10 course meal last week.  OMG! It was REALLY REALLY good as everybody said.  For $35 per person, they serve really good portion of 10 courses.  Every dish was really tasty on that night.  I can't recall every single dish as angeleyes did, but they are quite similar to what angeleyes did.  They were all really good and I got really really stuffed.  It's such a nice place to go for a nice Izakaya dinner.

oh... DON'T forget to make reservation in advance.  They are SUPER packed all the time.

Decent Black Cod & Crab Cake
(3/30/2006 4:19:56 PM)
It's my 2nd or 3rd time going to this restaurant.  I tried their Crab Cake & Black Cod.  My friends had the Veal Shank.  They are all pretty good, although the Veal Shank was better than the Black Cod.  It could b/c I didn't really like the fish skin, but I like the risotto that came with it.

House of Tofu Soup
(3/21/2006 10:15:26 AM)
My gf took me to this restaurant near SFU recently.  She is a big fan of hot & spicy food, but I am not that crazy about it.  When she said she wanted to get the hot tofu soup, I wasn't very excited.  Surprisingly enough, the tofu soup was AMAZING!!! Yes, it is hot and spicy, but it's SO GOOD!! If I didn't fill myself up too much by their rice cake & korean pan cake, I could have finished the whole bowl of soup.  I am surprised why I haven't heard of it when I was in sfu.

Hi Genki
(3/7/2006 10:14:11 AM)
I have heard of about this place for a long time.  I finally went there on last Sunday with my gf.  It's a very casual inexpensive restaurant in a residential area.  It's owned and operated by Japanese.  It was not too busy since we went there around 2pm (They serve lunch between 11am to 3pm).

We tried their Potato Croquette & their Karage dishes.  They are both pretty good.  It's a nice restaurant to go on a casual Sunday.

Addicted to Tiramisu
(3/2/2006 6:22:16 PM)
Thanks Taro! I tried their Tiramisu last night!! It's AMAZING!!! It's not too big & heavy and have a strong taste of whisky.  It's a really nice dessert after a pretty big portioned Agnolotti.  Oh, did I forget to mention the entree?  Oops! The dessert was just too good that I almost forgot about the nicely done entree as well.

I shared a plate of Agnolotti with my gf.  The dish was Agnolotti stuffed with satay chicken with two different sauces (white & Pesto).  Both types were really good!! Not super heavy as well!  I like this place!

Moonstruck Tea and Gift
(2/20/2006 1:44:06 PM)
I went to this place with my gf yesterday for afternoon tea.  It's a pretty artsy chinese tea house with paintings and collections.  They have quite a wide variety of chinese green and black tea.  It's kind of cool to sit in a chinese tea house in the heart of downtown to watch sunset on a relaxing Sunday.

I didn't try their dim sum.  They look a bit expensive.  I guess they may be very gourment chinese dim sum.

LK Dining Lounge
(1/30/2006 12:23:05 AM)
I finally went to LK Dining Lounge for dine out last week.  It's quite a typical yaletown yuppie style restaurant.  It gave me the feeling that it's trying to go natural with their theme color, green, and the fish tank simulation on the wall that was projected by a projector.  It's quite interesting.

My gf and I ordered the Pan-seared Scallops & Dungeness Crab Open Ravioli for appetizers.  The ravioli was SO GOOD!!! The crab meat was real and fresh.  The taste was just rich enough.  I like it so much!!  We had Pan-seared Cilantro-Lime Sablefish & Balsamic-marinated Pork Tenderloin with goat cheese-thyme polenta.  The pork was done pretty well.  I usually don't order pork b/c not many places can make them soft.  It was pretty good at LK.  The polenta was amazing as well.  I emptied the whole plate.

When it came to desserts, we were both very full already.  The desserts we had were Toasted Hazelnut Genoise Operetta & Chocolate Monkey.  They were not bad.  It would be nice if they were not so heavy.

Great Experience
(1/24/2006 11:25:03 AM)
I had a great experience at this restaurant on last Sat nite.  My friend & I didn't order from the dine out menu b/c it was not as interesting as their Set Menu #2 on their regular menu.  We love their Italian cured meats & the pasta so much.  The pasta included Penne (red sauce), Gnocchi (white sauce), and Linguine (white sauce with Pesto).  The Gnocchi & Linguine were the best.  We were very full after the 3rd course (salad) already, but somehow we managed to finish the yummy Free Range Chicken & Veal.  They were pretty good as well.   Our waitor was nice enough to give us free desserts (Tiramisu & Chocolate Mousse Cake).  They were just SO yummy!!!!  We were SUPER full after the desserts, we headed to the dance floor & danced with the live swing music!  That was great!

The food & service were very good.  We took our time to enjoy our dinner, a bottle of wine that was recommended by our waitor, and the live music.  I will definitely go back again!

Koji
(12/14/2005 5:15:55 PM)
My coworkers and I went to this place for lunch today. Although the price and food were okay, the service was TERRIBLE.  We were served by a sloppy & impolite waitress.

The daily lunch special we ordered had sushi, undo, teriyaki chicken, and gyoza.  We were shocked that we finally got our hot food first after 30 mins of waiting.  After we are almost done with our hot food, I had to ask the waitress for the sushi.  Her replied pissed me off.  She said, "well, the table over there is waiting for sushi too.  They have waited for a while already and they came before you guys."  I was like... "wtf... it's NOT my problem that your kitchen is slow today.  I just want to finish my lunch in an hour."  I don't think this is an unrealistic expectation since this restaurant is in the heart of downtown.  Most people only have one hour of lunch; lucily that my lunch hour is not so strict.

Moreover, they gave us a bill before we asked to and it took them almost 10 mins to give us the change back after we gave them the $$.  The whole experience was .

I am SO surprised about the number of people in the restaurant on a Thursday.  I am also surprised by the quality of food & portion.  I am again surprised by the price when I see the bill.  It was such a GOOD DEAL!!!  I am so glad that I live SO close to this restaurant.  I will go again for sure!!!

Tacos Mexico Sabroso
(11/25/2005 1:51:39 PM)
It's a little family operated restaurant that serves authentic mexican food.  I tried their Engchilada with green sauce.  It tasted really good.  The portion was huge yet very economic.  I would definitely go back for lunch! :-)

Take 5 Cafe

Another rising coffee chain in downtown.  It's opened by Caffe de Medici. I love their panini, eggnog latte, and the very tasty tiramisu. It's a great place for lunch in downtown.

The Hermitage

I went to this restaurant during the dine out event.  The food was very good, but the service was EVEN BETTER.  It's a quiet little French restaurant that you don't want to miss, especially on a date! :-)

Bin 941

I went back to this restaurant again after 2 years.  It is still one of the best Tapas restaurant in Vancouver.  I tried some new items on their menu.  Turkey thigh, Fried portobello mushroom, sable fish, and their dark chocolate desserts (VERY similar to the Chocolate Lava Cake @ La Terraza).  They are ALL GOOD, especially the Sable Fish.  I was THAT close to get a second dish.

By the way, the music was VERY good tonight!! :-)

Zakkushi Charcoal Grill

It's a pretty cool place! It's specialty is Robata! They have a pretty wide variety of robatas.  Besides robatas, I found their Spinanch & Lotus Salad is pretty interesting too.

I have only been there for drinks many times.  I keep going back when I can't decide where to go.  It's trendy and laidback.  I have tried the Yam Fries.  It's pretty nice! I heard that their tenderloin is pretty good too, but I havne't tried it myself.  Also, their patio is a must try in the summer!

Avenue Grill

I went there on my b-day.  It was a very nice place.  Quiet, cozy, and comfortable!  I tried their eggplant and escorgot dipping.  They are EXCELLENT.  Although the entres are not the best, it still a nice place to have a quiet diinner.  It's good in general and I go there again!

L'Emotion

It's an excellent cozy French restaurant! I was there 2 months ago.  My friend and I had their 4-course set menu.  It was gorgious!  For the price we paid for, I really think it's more worthwhile than Le Crocodile.

By the way, this restaurant is NOT easy to find.  It's down pretty far on the west on Marine Drv.  It is behind a little gas station.  That's the only landmark over there.  You won't miss it!

I just went to Yuji's last night! It was GREAT!!!!! It has a traditional japanese restaurant decors, but an very innovative menu. I tried the Tuna & Salmon Croquette, Sweet Potato Stick (Deep fried), Beef Tataki, and Mexican Roll! They are SO GOOD and unique and tasty. It's a MUST try if you are tired of Shiru-bay, Happa, and Guu.

Bistro Sakana

It's a relatively traditional Japanese restaurant, but it's the first Japanese restaurant in Vancouver serves papaya sushi and mango sushi. My favorite dishes over there are including the two I mentioned above, Okonomiyaki (Japanese Pizza), Soft-Shell Crab rolls, and Oyster Hot Pot (not sure if they still have it). It's a small and cozy Japanese restaurant to try.

Chambar Belgian
(9/30/2005 10:08:30 PM)
I finally tried Chambar Belgian recently. It's such a popular restaurant. I couldn't even get the 7pm or 7:30pm setting when I made a reservation on Tuesday for a Friday.

I was welcomed with a pretty warm smile and authentic decors. It's such a nice and fantasy restaurant. I tried their super sweet Blue Fig martini with blue cheese. It's such a funny mixed.

We had beef tenderloin and mussels and fries for appetizer. They were pretty yummy! Smile As for entre, we tried the halibut. It was just okay.

I would rate this restaurant 3.5 out of a 5 because I found everything dish quite salty. It maybe the style of Belgian food.

Anyways, it's not bad in general.
