Vera's Burger Shack (Kitsilano)
(11/4/2005 10:30:47 AM)
Hell yeah. You can't go wrong with 1.5 pounds of pure high grade meaty goodness. Sloppy, fatty food to satistify the soul.

Subeez Cafe
(11/4/2005 10:29:25 AM)
Trendy lofty sort of lounge-restaurant - but not in the pretentious neon and brushed steel sort of way. Atmosphere reminds me of Interview with a Vampire. Decent casual food,  very stiff drinks, fun for a night out with the friends.

Section (3)
(11/4/2005 10:27:47 AM)
If you can get over the nipple sign staring you in the face when you walk in, its not bad for a casual restaurant. Trendy, you see many young profsesionals tucking into after-work cocktails. Food isn't awesome, but its more a place to socialize than feast. Not bad as a safe place for a birthday or a group dinner.

Rodney's Oyster House
(11/4/2005 10:25:50 AM)
When you want pure seafood bliss without cream-laden sauce or other pretense, go to Rodneys.  My meal consisted of about a dozen raw oysters, a whole lobster, and some soup to fill. Excellent - its good when restaurants can do simple things very, very, very, well.

Provence Marinaside

Great views and quality food. Went for dinner in the summer, and wasn't disappointed. Would go again.

La Terrazza
(11/4/2005 10:22:10 AM)
Went for a special occasion. Excellent food, classic italian duck, excellent pasta as well. Good wine pairing, we were not rushed. Stayed for about 2 hours. The waiter was excellent in reccomending dessert wines and otherwise.

IMO, don't judge a 4 star purely through Dine Out, they likely produce en-masse and to clientele they know may not normally come.

Joe Fortes Seafood and Chop House
(11/4/2005 10:19:35 AM)
Can't go wrong with Forte's. A Vancouver classic, it has consistently delivered year and year again. Most, at one time or another, whether its business or pleasure, has been to Forte's. Simple, classic meats and seafoods that are well prepared. Good for your date or your business lunch.

Harlo Gourmet Burgers
(11/4/2005 10:17:14 AM)
For what they claim to do, they do well. Quality of meat is very good, and a wide variety of burgers for all tastes. My favourie is the Mushroom and Brie. Excellent to go when you want some confort food, but know you can do better than an Earls burger.

Guu with Otokomae
(11/4/2005 10:15:21 AM)
Excellent food, similar to the Robson location, but a bit more formal and quiet. Still though, it can get rather loud. The prices are very good for the quality of the food - almost a steal. I would definitely go back.

Guu
(11/4/2005 10:14:22 AM)
Excellent izakaya style food, I believe one of Vancouver's firsts (?). Very down home Japanese style cooking, and LOTS of fun on a weekend night - it gets loud and rowdy. Reccomended. Go earlier for a quieter atmosphere if that is what you are looking for. Kampai!

Glowbal Grill and Satay Bar / Afterglow
(11/4/2005 10:12:43 AM)
I'm sorry to hear that the other reviewer had a poor experience. All visits to Glowbal, for me, have been positive with well-prepared food. The brunch is also good,  and very reccomended. Perhaps they have fallen to a lower level of quality, as I haven't been in a while.

DV8 Lounge
(11/4/2005 10:03:36 AM)
I haven't been to DV8 for a very long time, but from what I remember, it was a lot of fun. Very funky atmosphere, very urban-loungey, you would NOT expect good food from such a casual surrounding. The food was great - fresh, down to earth, satisfying. I recall that my peanut buttter cheesecake glowed under the blacklights ;-)

Blue Water Cafe and Raw Bar
(11/4/2005 10:00:56 AM)
Blue Water is a mixed bag. They do some things well, and some things poorly. The positives: you will be hard pressed to find better sushi - their raw sushi bar is of high repute, and for good reason.  Their oyster selection and quality is top-tier as well. The dessert is excellent as well, definitely not the 'we know you bought this from another suppplier' at many other restaurants.

The entree was somewhat lackluster - the halibut i had was bland,  and way too dense (somewhat overcooked). I suppose I could have ordered a more exciting fish, but in Vancouver there is no excuse to not do halibut properly.

Diva at the Met
(11/4/2005 9:57:33 AM)
Came here from my grad dinner. Truly classy dining, very intimate atmosphere. The wine pairings with my courses were well defined, and the food preparation and quality definitely up to par with the reputation. Would reccomend for a formal dinner, with folks that can appreciate the quality.

Da Pasta Bar
(11/4/2005 9:53:52 AM)
Went recently for a friend's birthday. Rather small - not for a large party. The pasta I had was about average, I expected more from a restaurant that claimed to specialized in it. Nevertheless, the service was friendly, so I'd go back for a lunch, probably not a dinner.

Feenie's
(11/4/2005 9:40:48 AM)
If you are planning to go to Milestones, Earls, or another chain, you might as well go to Feenies (provided, of course, that you have the foresight to make a reservation) - the price point is about the same.

Feenies tries to (mostly successfully) improve on the casual-eating circuit by improving classic pub-like fare - try the Feenie Burger, Shepards Pie, etc. A good choice.  Things were interesting when they offered the Iron Chef Crab Battle menu.

One thing is that they need to change the menu - it hadn't changed much in between the last 2 or 3 visits.

Chambar Belgian
(11/4/2005 9:06:00 AM)
Excellent room - great view, very 'open.' Definitely a welcome to Vancouver with their unique Belgium food - everyone must get the moule' au frites (mussels and fries).  Great service, good food. would return.

Bridges
(11/4/2005 9:00:52 AM)
My families financial planner typically takes his clients for lunch and learns - lunch provided at "X" restaurant, while analysts talk about particular securities they wish to promote. What I expected to be a boring lecture ended up enjoyable as "X" was Bridges. The view, though rainy at the time, was impressive (Granville Island) and the food very well prepared. Reccomended.

Bishop's
(11/4/2005 8:59:19 AM)
In an environment fraught with hyped up mod-decor, overpriced fois-this and truffle that, Bishops consistently delivers with FRESH, simple, ingredients and flawless preparation.  Still one of the best 4 stars in vancouver, you cannot go wrong for that special occasion.

Araxi Restaurant & Lounge
(11/4/2005 8:55:02 AM)
We decided to go to Araxi for our special occasian, having had positive experiences with the other Top Table restaurants. We were not disappointed - excellent service, and very well prepared food. Some of the best roasted pork i've had, despite being such a common dish nowadays.

Funky 'urban' atmosphere, decent food the times i've went. Good brunch.

Samurai Sushi House
(11/4/2005 8:48:32 AM)
Yes, the servings are large, but the quality poor and service lacking. Ordered a party tray, for pickup at xxx time, went at xxx time, had to wait 30 minutes.

Looking at the other entries, this is more of a 'i need to eat' place than one where you would expect to be impressed.
