Newly Renovated
(7/12/2006 12:18:50 PM)

Pro - after the renovation the place is much bigger with lots more booths for customers to sit in.  Very spacious.
- no more waiting for a table.
- food is the same as before.

Con - new staff are a bit slow and sometimes it seems like they're understaffed especially when it's busy and you just sit there and wait.  They seem to have the same number of staff as before with more tables.
- the mini set menu is now similar to the one on Main St.  The old mini set menu was way better.
- the drinks have definitely gone down hill...warm iced lemon tea, watered down milk tea, warm sugarless lemon tea or even better they just never come.  I've had warm ice lemon tea served to me on two different occassions.
- the bathrooms are still the same old bathrooms from before...
- portions are even smaller now

I'd definitely only go to this place if I didn't feel like driving down to Richmond.

One fork for having decent food and another for being decently cheap.

Chianti Cafe & Restaurant
(3/7/2006 11:26:59 PM)

I just went back there yesterday and I had a wonderful time.

I found that they have roof top parking.  To find this parking lot (it's rather small and probably fits around 10 cars) and you'll see this ramp.  There's also a few spots in the alley itself for customers and they'll all clearly labelled Chianti's.

Gnocchi Chianti, wasn't on the menu but pick a pasta and pick and sauce and they'll make it.  My friend also ordered a custom dish they made especially with her requests and it was delicious!

Another heads up, if you apply for a Chianti's card (collect points for a free meal) they'll send you emails about specials and such.  I got a birthday email from them last week and I had received a free meal and dessert on them which I used yesterday.

Delilah's
(1/21/2006 11:26:41 PM)
Went here for Dine Out Vancouver.  Service was fine for such a busy night, had to wait a bit for the food, approximately 30 min between appy and entrees.  A little peeved about the seating.  I had the table directly infront of the bar, so my chair would get bumped as people walked passed.  The ceiling was beautiful.  Food was great.  A little loud so had to yell most of the evening to be heard.

Alleluia Cafe
(1/18/2006 8:35:39 PM)

This used to the Venus Cafe, it looked so oddly familiar when I first went there with a friend.  Tucked away in the corner this place might be hard to find.  Parking is hectic but then most Richmond parking lots are poorly designed and the drivers don't make it any easier.

Food here is awesome.  If you enjoy Honolulu Cafe type food, you'll love this place.  If you order a mini set item it comes with a free drink that is free to refill if you can nab someone to refill it for you.

Open late, I think until 2 am.

Kat's Tea Hut
(1/18/2006 8:25:18 PM)

Serious lack of good bubble tea places in Vancouver, but Kat's makes up for it.  Kat's always adding new things to the menu and this is possibly one of the few places in Vancouver or Richmond that has mango stars!  Green apple jelly in your fruit slush is also a must try.  Late at night on weekends, this place tends to be packed.  She also recently got a machine to make egg puffs.

Must try:  Yogurt Slush with Green Apple Jelly

Ogenki Sushi
(12/19/2005 2:27:22 PM)
Frequent this place as I meet up with friends every Monday for food.  They have some awesome lunch combos for $6 before 4:30 pm.  Ogenki roll is a try, never had anything like it.  They use to have a mango roll...haven't seen it for a while now.

Hawker's Delight
(12/19/2005 2:21:31 PM)

Great for the welfare tuition paying students out there.  Just take the #25 Brentwood Mall from UBC and get off at Main St.  Have lunch or dinner for under $10.  Limited seating so I suggest take out.

Not a great place to go to if you're really picky...noodles are served in green plastic bowls and place could use a scrub down.

Urban Thai Bistro
(12/13/2005 6:55:35 PM)

Went there for the taste of Yaletown thing where local restaurants had set menus for people to try out (like Dine out Vancouver).  Food was good, very spicy...
http://www.yaletowninfo.com/events/thaiurbanbistro.aspx

We had the Thai Seafood Dinner set

The Tod Mun Goong was very good, as was the other two main dishes.

every dish we had except for the tod mun goong had cilantro in it and I really hate that stuff.  soup and salad was very spicy while the two entrees were mild.

Daimo Noodle Express
(12/9/2005 12:39:41 PM)

Went to go try this place out because a friend and I were looking for a cheap place to quickly grab lunch.  Their prawn wonton noodle soup is awesome...the wontons are huge and has about 2 prawns in each one.  We also tried their spicy fried squid...that was okay, I think the chef messed up and put sugar instead of salt because some of the pieces were rather sweet.

I only wished we went a bit later, their mini set menu had some great deals.

Chianti Cafe & Restaurant

Fresh pasta and I just love their gnocchi!

http://chianticafe.com/
lunch/dinner/delivery menu available online

Gnocchi Della Nonna
potato dumplings with sautéed mushrooms, parmesan and meat sauce

Fettuccine Chianti
prosciutto ham, mushrooms in a creamy parmesan cheese sauce

Linguini Kitsilano
Italian sausages, mushrooms, bell peppers, tomato sauce, white wine and garlic

They now have delivery!

This is a nice place to go for a casual dining experience though they do get a little busy in the evenings.

4/5 because the first time I went there they completely forgot my order since we were a large group and parking is a little hard to find.  But gone back several times after that and loved it.

Nick's Spaghetti House
(12/5/2005 9:48:46 PM)
I always get the half order of ribs and spaghetti and the meat just falls off the bone on those ribs.  The half order saves room for a big slice of strawberry cheesecake.  Head there early because if you go late, Nick's will be packed and there'll be no cheesecake left for dessert.

You must try their strawberry cheesecake!
