A Great Finish To A Great Night
(5/18/2009 7:01:03 PM)
This was the fifth and final stop of five places we visited on our evening with Whistler Tasting Tours.  They sat us in the lounge which had log paneling and a real cabin feel to it - the kind of place you image to be in a mountain resort.  As we had already eaten 4 courses before arriving here, we only tried a dessert - a tasty cheesecake with pears and caramel sauce.  The plates that people were ordering at the other tables did look scrumptious, but we'll have to try them another time.

The server did a great job of welcoming the group and an interesting explanation about the Inniskillin Riesling icewine they paired with the dessert.  We would recommend this lounge for drinks with friends as it had a great bar and cocktail list.  The restaurant side looked a little cold as it had all white walls, but I'm sure the patio in the summer is gorgeous.

A Real Treat

This was the fourth of five places we visited on our evening with Whistler Tasting Tours.  It was definitely the highlight of the tour for us.  You enter through a gorgeous hallway of Italian style murals.  The atmosphere was vibrant and the decor was tasteful.  They had our big group at a round table which is nice to be able to converse with everyone.  The paintings on the walls were some of the best we've seen in a restaurant (artist: Kal Gajoum).  We tried the braised beef over a bed of spinach risotto -  perfection.  It was so tender and done in a delicious sauce - a definite recommendation.  The service was spot on - friendly and quick.  Whether a family, a couple or a group of friends, this is a great place for quality dining

Surprisingly delicious seafood
(5/18/2009 6:52:26 PM)
This was the third of five places we visited on our evening with Whistler Tasting Tours.  It's probably what you expect from a typical steakhouse - dark lighting, lots of mahogany furniture, and servers in white butcher coats.  But they absolutely won us over with some amazing crusted blackened ahi tuna.  It just melt in your mouth.  It's on their appetizer menu, so be sure to not miss it.  And the paired Nk'mip Pinot Noir was fantastic.  The server really seemed to know their wines which added to the experience.

I had heard it was fantastic

This was suppose to be the third of five places we visited on our evening with Whistler Tasting Tours, but unfortunately Apres Restaurant has closed down so we didn't get the chance to try it. Instead the tour took us to Hy's Steakhouse which was also fantastic. Ignore the 3 fork rating as we had to put something.

Nice, Cozy and Tasty
(5/18/2009 6:45:57 PM)
This was the second of five places we visited on our evening with Whistler Tasting Tours.  It's a small venue off the beaten track with a cozy and fun feel to it.  You can see the chefs working away behind a hightop bar which was kind of cool.  We tried their pan seared salmon with fresh veggies - really fresh and full of flavour.  They paired it nicely with a Prospect Sauvignon Blanc.

We'd recommend this place for a casual and comfortable evening with friends, but not if you're looking for real fine dining.  We didn't try the breakfast but our tour guide was recommending the eggs benny or stuffed french toast - apparently his favorite.  And the prices looked really reasonable.

A Great Meeting Place With Great Cocktails
(5/18/2009 6:41:03 PM)
This was the first of five places we visited on our evening with Whistler Tasting Tours.  It was a great spot to start as it's a gorgeous open concept space and there was some fantastic live music.  We even bought one of the musicians CDs (Colin Bullock).  The dim sum we had was really tasty, and the cocktails were delicious - we would recommend the white pear cosmo.  The menu prices are little higher but if you're paying for the atmosphere and entertainment - well worth it.
